Walk in the Park for Scleroderma, Gatineau, Quebec

" a Walk in the Park for Scleroderma"

June 5, 2010       Gatineau Park, Quebec

This is the second annual public awareness event to promote funding for Scleroderma Research.  With support from the Running Room, the Scleroderma Society of Ontario is hosting this fundraising event, which is a leisurely walk in the park, followed by a barbeque and prizes.

Please note the new location.  It was held in Ottawa last year but this year it will take place at Parc Lac Leamy, 100 Lac-Leamy Road, Gatineau, Quebec.
It will be on Saturday, June 5th, with registration starting at 10:00 a.m. and the walk starting at 11:00 a.m.  The BBQ will be at noon.

You are invited to participate and /or support this excellent event.  Participants are required to raise pledges to win prizes!
Contact Karen Nielsen (see details below)  for registration and pledge sheets, or you can register on-line by following the link to races on the running room website: www.runningroom.com.

If you would like to support this fundraising event but do not know of any individual participant to support with a pledge, we invite you to support our own Scleroderma Society of Canada Treasurer, Catherine Fortuné.  Catherine is a scleroderma patient, living in Ottawa, and this is her second year as a participant in this event.  She sends this note.

On June 5, 2010 I will be taking part in our second annual Walk In The Park for Scleroderma. This is a public awareness event to promote funding for Scleroderma Research. To date there is no cure for scleroderma and I am hoping you can help me in the quest to find one! Or if not a cure, promote awareness.  Thanks for your support! Catherine

Donors can pledge support by going to the Running Room website at: http://www.runningroom.com.  Click on ‘Giving’ and follow the instructions. Or, as Catherine points out, you can register yourself and join her in the walk. She says that it will be a family-type affair with the choice of a 1 km or 5 km walk followed by a BBQ.

Secure online donations can be made at the Running Room Events web site with your credit card. An electronic tax receipt will be sent to you by email. Please click here to make a secure online donation.

About Scleroderma
Scleroderma is a chronic, often progressive autoimmune disease – like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Sjogren's and multiple sclerosis – in which the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues. The disease, which literally means “hard skin”, can cause thickening and tightening of the skin, as well as serious damage to internal organs including the lungs, heart, kidneys, esophagus, and the gastrointestinal tract. To date there is no cure. Please help us find one!
